By cut ThompsonStaff Writer: ToTheCenter comSevere flooding in the state of Tabasco today has stranded 300,000 people in what Mexican President Felipe Caldern called one of the worst natural disasters in the history of the country, according to the Guardian. Rivers overflowed following a week of heavy come down in Tabasco a southeastern Mexican express located on the south bank of the Gulf of Mexico. The Grijalva river one of two large rivers surrounding capital city Villahermosa has risen two meters above its critical level pouring wet into the city center. The Guardian reports that over 70% of the state and 80% of Villahermosa are now under wet. Andrs Grenier governor of Tabasco warned that the floods may get worse as more heavy rainfall is expected in the region over the coming days. The floods have already affected over a million people according to government officials and the homes of over 900,000 people have been flooded. It is the worst flood to hit Tabasco in 50 years. Humanitarian relief in the form of food clothing and bottled wet is being provided by the military and health officials are warning of the spread of waterborne diseases desire cholera. The state of Chiapas which borders Tabasco in the south has also reported flooding that has affected another 100,000 people according to government officials.
