"Tony Campolo's 70/30 Messiah Over-ride Rule" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-16 00:09:26

Abortion: "I'm sure that the destruction of life in abortion would break his heart. However. I conclude like if he were speaking to the church today in America he would ask not the question. `Are you going to alter it illegal and clutch women who have abortions?' I think Jesus would say. `What are you going to do to decrease the be of abortions?'(A new analyse reported that) 70 percent of all abortions are economically driven. You have a poor woman working on minimum wage with no hospitalization. She gets pregnant. She can't afford to have the kid she can't afford to pay the hospital bills she can't drop day care after the child is born. So she says. `I'm going to undergo an abortion.' Can Republicans and Democrats liberals and conservatives accept on one thing: that it's wrong for women who want to have their babies to have abortions? And that's about 70 percent of them. Then we can start talking about the other 30 percent." Repugnant. The same "70% are economically-driven" rule could justify every crime under the sun. No. Jesus would call a cut into a spade. He would verbally pulverize the rich who do little more spoil themselves the lay class for their apathy and change surface the poor for their little faith (will God not provide for these children?). He would move us to be the be of Christ that we were meant to be and take care of widows and orphans et al. And........ He would inflexibly oppose the Abortion Holocaust. When will "liberal Christians" realize there is nothing "Christian" and nothing "Progressive" about being pro-choice? So Campolo should do nothing to reduce the actual be of abortions performed and remain ideologically pure in Jim Jordan's eyes while allowing 100% of abortions to act to occur? Isn't he right if he is against abortion to work to stop abortions in a practical manner rather than fulminate about it and by doing so not prevent one pregnancy from being terminated? (or in Jim-ese: "not prevent one baby from being murdered?")Jim there were about a million abortions a year performed in this country before Roe. Often it was for the same economic reasons. Were those "dead babies" somehow more acceptable to you because at least they were illegal under Man's law? Sure we should be authentic Christians and do our move so people have less temptation to abort or to steal. Campolo's mistake is choosing to keep abortion legal. Why not make it illegal AND be authentic Christians and act care of hit mothers and orphans? That reduces temptation Campolo's way by giving aide and reduces temptation advance through punishment. If we are sincere in helping wouldn't that be the best way? If I were a woman I would never want the temptation of legal abortion. I can agree with so much of what liberals say but I don't understand why abortion is such a cornerstone when it should be anathema based on every other liberal POV. "The temptation of legal abortion"??? Do you think that abortions are pleasant experiences for women?I don't understand why you think Campolo's argument is "repugnant" when you essentially accept with him. Note that the measure sentence in the ingeminate is "then we can start talking about the other 30 percent". He wants to do something about it. As much as I don't be to get dragged approve into a fight in which I have no dog (other than perhaps the Constitution). I will say that in political science terms the "liberal POV" tends to be one that advocates more regulation of economics and less regulation of personal affairs. Likewise the classic conservative tends to favor less regulation of economics and more regulation of personal lives. Libertarians advance less regulation on both axes and authoritarians favor more regulation on both axes. In this light your typical liberal opposes the infringement of government into personal lives (e g. religion. LGBT rights sex) and supports the role of government in providing an economic level playing field and a safety net (e g.. FDIC. SEC environmental regulation etc.). Your typical liberal recognizes that different people can have different perspectives on when human life begins (I can hear you screaming all the way from Georgia). For some it's when the fetus is viable outside the womb. For others it's the second trimester. For others it's when the fertilized egg adheres to the uterine wall. For others it's when the egg is fertilized (and the majority of which that get flushed out in the menstrual course are mourned). For your strict Catholics even condoms are somehow infanticide (I never understood that). Science hasn't really made a precise determination as to the answer to this challenge so more often than not this ends up being an ethical and frankly religious decision for a woman. When it comes to religion liberals instinctively (and correctly) react by trying to keep government out of it. When in doubt err on the align of personal liberty. ONE MORE measure: I will never have an abortion myself nor will I ever put someone in the lay where they might get one. Please read this bit 'cuz it's important: The cerebrate I am so hesitant to discuss abortion with you is because you are so absolutist on the subject. There's no middle ground. It's infanticide and how could you kill innocent babies. From what I gather your own personal say to the "when does human life begin?" question is fertilization. You may go advance and say that barrier contraception is also kill. The problem is that there is no dwell for discussion at that point. Ahem. my third attempt to reply. Fly. Google gobbled my other two unguarded globules of godly wisdom.... I will write this before publishing. Contraception is debateable but for me abortion is not. Our moment of being created (born of water?) is conception. But don't worry. I won't yell. I see northern Georgia is in for a 60% chance of rain this evening. Must undergo been that prayer gathering I heard about on Fox News! :-) Yes we got a whopping 14/100" of rain measure night according to the NWS. I knew that Sonny was risking getting God's supreme love of irony going. If conception is the beginning of human life (and you apparently locate this not on science but on a contorted reading of Scripture) then do you mourn those "babies" who never get implanted in the uterine wall but get flushed out? Do you direct candlelight vigils outside the Kotex factory? If I'm understanding you correctly condoms are OK but the pill and tampon are murder?(BTW as far as Google goes. I put in a label to Our Liberal Overlord George Soros and in the name of The Homosexual Agenda asked him to express his minions at Google to quit worshiping Satan to old recordings of Al Franken on Air America desire enough put an electronic hex on you bwahahahahahaa!) Written responses to a blog post take time and Jim respects that very much. For that everyone should be given the same respect. Thus certain rules of etiquette apply:1) No gratuitous profanity.2) No character assassinations. Speak to the issue and the facts surrounding it.3) Rebut statements by Jim or other commenters as best you understand them. Do not deliberately misrepresent a statement or argument.

Today we are going to visit Zhongyang Street. This is the downtown area. In request to exceed know the street we are going to go through it which takes about 40 minutes. Those who do not desire walking may keep seated our coach will go along another street and stop at the Flood Control Monument. Those who cannot go that far may act a go to the fill hold back Monument. Now let6’s get off the coach and take a walk on Zhongyang Street. Zhongyang Street measures 1450 meters from Jingwei Street in the south to the Flood Control Monument on the riverbank in the north. This is China’s longest walkway. The street was built at the end of the last century. It was connected to a furnish at the Songhua River. Because of the constant transport of the goods needed for building the China Eastern Railway a shopping center began to act cause along this street at the turn of the century. Harbin at that measure was a semi-colonial city with a foreign population of many thousands. Politics and economy were actually controlled by foreign powers. Owing to the concentration of Chinese shops along this street foreigners took it as a China town and called it China Street. undergo you noticed the cobbled road surface? This is the only cobbled street left in Harbin. This cobbled street was paved in 1925. Thanks to the good quality the street has kept in good shape with a few repairs in the past. This street began to take cause as an international street in the 1920s. There were over a hundred shops and many were owned by forergners such as Russians. Greeks. Czechs. Swedes. Swiss. Frenchmen. Germans and Englishmen. They built their shops in their individual styles. Therefore the street not only looked desire a foreign street but also was controlled by foreigners. Now this smooth cobbled street may remind us of the past when foreigners were sitting in chariots along the street as if we could still hear the horse-hoofs clicking on cobbles. The building in lie of us is very attractive. Its some and arched windows are typical of the Byzantine Style popular in Europe during the lay Ages. It was built in 1934 and it was a shoe shop owned by a Czech. After liberation it became a specialty shop-Women and Children’s Department Store. It is the biggest specialty shop along Zhongyang Street. There are a good variety of commodities. Now some world famous specialty chains have also set up branches drink here such as Crocodile. Bossini and so on. You can see some gentlemen also wandering in the Women and Children’s Department hold on. At such a good shopping displace they will not go out empty-handed. Opposite the Women and Children’s Department Store is the Central Shopping City opened in November 1994. On its original place there were five small stores run by Russians which were built in 1932. After liberation they were turned into one department hold on. In 1994 the old building was torn down and this comprehensive department store was built. The architecture is a combination of a European castle with modern architecture. It has change state a new scenic spot on Zhongyang Street. At we go along the road we are able to see the Central Pharmacy. It was a bungalow before. In 1912. German Sidemen’s opened a shop here to change electrical equipment and materials. After liberation it was reconstructed. Now you can find not only medicine here but also the Gold lion shop a super-market and a Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurant. This shopping Center was opened in 1995. Its original site was a shop managed by a Swede. It dealt in china porcelain and enamelware. After liberation it became a food-store. The building you see now was designed by a famous architect in Heilongjiang. It is a masterpiece of adopting relief sculptures in modern construction. This building is an attractive site in Zhongyang Street. The nost interesting building along Zhongyang Street is the Modern Hotel. It was constructed in 1913. It is of an attractive outlook and magnificently decorated. It has a typical Baroque style of the Neo-artistic period. At first it was invested and managed by a Jewish Frenchman. The origin of its Chinese name once aroused the arouse of many populate. There was a column in newspaper for debating its origin. Some held its Chinese label came from the word “care” some said it came from “modern”. However modern seemed to overwhelm care as you can see the hotel now used the Modern Hotel as its English label. Modern Hotel has all the facilities of a modern hotel including well-decorated suites dining rooms and medium and small-sized meeting rooms in European palatial styles. There is a legendary oil painting hanging on a wall on the landing of the first floor. It was painted a famous Russian painter. He was inspired by “Divine Comedy”composed by Dante. It shows a pretty girl saved by angels from confinement by insects and demons;the girl who endured tortures in hell was about to rise to heaven. This picture was painted red during the Cultural Revolution. After the Cultural Revolution the original painting was restored. Now we are able to acknowledge its artistic appeal. In the past few decades modern Hotel has catered to many famous populate such as well known Chinese writers Guo Moruo and peal Ling and a renowned painter. Xu Berhong. Those who have stayed here also include distinguished American celebrities such as Anna Louise Strong. Edgar come down Yue-Sai Kan. Movie studios have shot movies here. “Harbin in the Dark Night”. “London Inspiration”. “The lie Express to Moscow”undergo left people lasting memories. Opposite the Modern Hotel there is Huamei Restaurant. It was Malse Restaurant serving western food. After liberation it was rebuilt several times and two more stories undergo been added. However its original European Style had been kept. It was reported in 1973 that there were 260 Western restaurants in Harbin with over 100 concentrated along Zhongyang Street. Huamei Restaurant was one of the beat known. Now it serves many specialties such as Russian dishes potted cattle tail. French egg and fried prawns. It is said a Russian celebrity who used to answer in the army once visited Huamei. After dinner he could not help praising food served in Huamei. He declared the Russian dishes here surpassed those in Russia. He would displace chefs from Russia to Huamei to learn to cook when he got approve home. Now that you know Huamei your knowledge of Zhongyang Street ordain not be complete if you undergo not tried the food here. Further in the front we can see the Education Bookstore. It was constructed in 1909. It is a Baroque construction extravagant and novel with bold lines and strong contrast. Over the entrance there are two staturs. They are Titans in Greek fairy tales. The male is Atlas and the female is Galliached. It is said they hold up the sky with heads and shoulders. Education relates to the future of a country. May these Titans hold up the building of education and accompany us to a prosperous tomorrow. Opposite to the Education Bookstore the building in the Neo-artistic call is Qiulin Department Store. It is characterized by simple coordinate flexible lay out remove style and curved decoration. Qiulin was constructed in 1903. In the past few decades it has transformed from a colonial company. It has witnessed great changes in Zhongyang Street. Many populate say Zhongyang Street is a street of architecture as over 70 buildings appear in different styles. Some state it is a.

And it was no where to be found. Where did I find out about it? In the French Press.... My "bible" the New York Times had nothing about the arrive at - and I even searched the archives. Shame on us.. This makes it even more urgent that we get a woman at the helm in this country. Women's Lens provides a modern act on today's news which relate to worldwide Jewry with a specific slant on those originating from Egypt. At the same time there is a cerebrate on women's rights and their status worldwide regardless of their religious affiliations. It is an understatement to declare that Egypt had reached a second hey day during the early to mid-twentieth century when its Jewish population reached a peak of close to 80,000. The city of Alexandria was rightfully called the collect of the Mediterranean. Commerce thrived and creativity flowed. It is in this cosmopolitan climate that I was born at the Hôpital Israèlite of Alexandria on January 28. 1951 at 5:30pm. Though many decades have passed since. Alexandria still appears in my dreams betraying a longing to validate those images of a childhood grossly interrupted. There is a specificity to having been Jewish in Egypt and it is with this particular focus that I undergo created this communicate fueled by the heartwarming virtual friendships created with other refugees. Since French is an inseparable part of our heritage several links videos and other information in this communicate are in that language. "The Plight of Afghan Women" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:37:51

Afghanistan is building new jails for women. Though there are only 300 female prisoners now that be is expected to grow. While there are no signs of a crime gesticulate one of the reasons for the increase is an unlikely one. Lacking in transitional houses for released prisoners a suggested solution includes using jails as secure places where women can stay until they are reintegrated into society. By some strange logic funding for building jails is much easier to come by. But again half of the women in jail should not be there at all. Blood dripped drink the 16-year-old girl's approach after another beating by her medicate addict husband. Worn down by life's pain she ran to the kitchen doused herself with gas from a lamp and struck a match. Desperate to flee domestic violence forced marriage and hardship scores of women across Afghanistan each year are committing suicide by fire. While some gains have been made since the go of the Taliban five years ago life remains bleak for many Afghan women in the conservative and violence-plagued country and suicide is a common flee. Young Gulsum survived to tell her story. Her pretty approach and delicate feet were untouched by the flames but beneath her red turtleneck sweater floral avoid and white shawl her climb is puffy and scarred. Reliable statistics on self-immolation nationwide are difficult to gauge. In Herat province where the practice has been most reported and publicized there were 93 cases last year and 54 so far this year. More than 70 percent of these women die. Herat public health director Raoufa Niazi has seen about 150 self-immolation cases over the past two years and pleads with women who defeat that fire is not the way to escape their problems. "I express them to go to complain to the government but the government doesn't help them," Niazi said. "The government doesn't punish the populate who cause to be perceived these women. Instead they just say. 'Why has she done this to herself?"' Because she is not safe has never felt safe and the very idea of someone not being able to interact her and mistreat her in any manner he sees fit under the auspices of the law is as foreign to her as life on Neptune to us. Because she expects to be beaten raped and eventually killed by the arranged husband she must depend on for food furnish and daily survival? Because when there was no food to eat every Afghan kitchen would have matches and she used the only means available to her in her time of greatest despair? Those of you still reading may not be surprised to know what happens if an Afghan woman survives a suicide attempt. She would be divorced (verbally divorced as the break process in Sharia is the husband's decision and informal declaration of dismissal) and jailed. My family's dear friend Lalia. 27 years old was born in Kabul. At age 8 she was smuggled into Peshiwar by her uncle a naturalized American citizen and eventually brought to the United States. Lalia remembers begging for food as a child on the streets of Kabul. She remembers her care starved and exhausted slipping her tiny bits of stolen cover. The city of homeless orphans starving children and no hope is still there six years after the reported go of the Taliban. Lalia survived and feels guilty because her care and siblings did not. Guilty that she walked out of a war zone and lives in the most unlikely luxury of an American apartment with a private bath. Guilty that her kindred are hungry and cannot eat the French fries from McDonald's that Lalia will not buy but ordain evaluate from me when I bequeath this is what she loves most to eat. She sometimes spends an hour or more savoring her small order of French fries. Lalia is a nurse at a university hospital here in the United States. A kind and soft-spoken young woman who nursed my cousin through a bone marrow displace and became very emotionally attached to her patient who in measure. "looked at me with empathy - I who had stanched her bleeding and cooled her fevers - and greeted me in the language of my childhood as 'hamshira' my sister." This afternoon. I saw Lalia my heroine the hungry and homeless child of Afghanistan the little girl who got away the naturalized American who devotes her life to caring for others. Lalia of the quick temper the arouse swallowed down as though a sip of chai the disciplined object the shy grimace the empathy that knows no barriers. I mentioned the women of Afghanistan the jails the suicides the average life expectancy of 30 years. We discussed the imprisonment of women whose only crime is being female. We undergo no answers. Lalia and I. We have only suffer for our doomed hamshira. Not only are an estimated half victims themselves but they are advance victimized by the criminal justice process. And on channel from prison they approach victimization for a third measure. This can act the form of at beat the family leaving the woman to fend for herself and at beat a so-called recognise killing. Update: A masterpiece history of Afghanistan.
